On November 18, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha announced the results of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams, with Andy Munyiri from Damacrest Academy in Nairobi County emerging as the top candidate.
Munyiri scored an impressive 440 marks out of a possible 500, surpassing his target of 420 marks.
When asked about his motivation, Munyiri revealed that his father's promise of a laptop and a trip to the Ark Lodge had driven him to work hard.
"My father promised to buy me a laptop and take me to the Ark Hotel if I got more than 420 marks, this made me work so hard," Munyiri said.
Despite expecting a good result, Munyiri was thrilled to learn that he had topped the exams.
"I wasn’t sure what I’d get. I received the results in my grandfather’s house in Nyeri and when the CS mentioned my name I was very excited," he said.
Munyiri credits his teachers for preparing him well for the exams and expresses gratitude to his family for their support.
He hopes to join Alliance Boys High School for his secondary education and aspires to become an automotive engineer like his grandfather.
