Boxing: National Team Selection Hinges on Kisumu League Championships

Published on November 19, 2019, the national boxing selectors are racing against time to pick a provisional squad for the African Olympic qualifiers.

The final leg of the national boxing league is set to take place in Kisumu from Thursday to Saturday, with 18 teams competing for the 25 available slots.

Among the teams vying for the slots are league champions Kenya Police, their arch-rivals Kenya Defence Forces, and Kibra ABC, who have impressed in their last three outings.

Other teams in the mix include former champions Kenya Prisons, Kenyatta National Hospital, Dallas Muthurwa, Githurai 44, Thika, and Nanyuki.

Counties will also parade their squads, as was the case in the penultimate leg of the league championships in Nanyuki last month.

Boxing Federation of Kenya Technical Director Albert Matito has released the names of officials who will officiate in the three-day tournament, including Matito, John Waweru, Nelson Otieno, S. Otieno, and D. Opiyo.
