On November 18, 2019, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results were released, and Andy Michael Munyiri emerged as the top candidate, scoring an impressive 440 marks.

Munyiri, a student from Damacrest Primary School in Thogoto, attributed his success to hard work and the support of his family and teachers.

"I am excited and extremely happy for being the top candidate. I was expecting good marks but not to emerge top. I want to thank God and the teachers for my preparing me adequately for this challenge. A lot of gratitude to my family too for going out of their way to supporting me," said Munyiri.

Despite being raised by his grandparents, Francis Munyiri Ndirangu and Margaret Muthoni Munyiri, Munyiri's grandparents were overjoyed by his achievement.

"I want to thank God for the beautiful day he has made. He has fought the battle for Andy right from nursery school until now when his hard work has been rewarded," said Ms. Ndirangu.

"I am elated about what our grandchild has been able to achieve. I would like to ask him not to rest on his laurels, that he picks up where he left when he gets to secondary school," said an overjoyed Francis Munyiri Ndirangu.

June Chepkoech Cheptoo, the second candidate, scored 439 marks and tied with two other students. Chepkoech, a student from Sangalo Central Primary School in Nandi, wants to proceed to Pangani Girls Secondary School and become a journalist or actress.
