Published on November 18, 2019, T-Mobile's CEO John Legere will step down at the end of April after his contract expires, marking the end of a decade-long tenure at the helm of the wireless company.
Legere, who has been credited with reviving T-Mobile since becoming its CEO in 2012, will be succeeded by Mike Sievert, the president and chief operating officer of the wireless company.
According to the company, Legere's decision to step down is part of a comprehensive leadership succession planning process, which will see him focus on closing T-Mobile's pending acquisition of Sprint while transitioning leadership to Sievert.
Legere will remain a member of the T-Mobile board, but his plans beyond his departure remain unclear. He was reportedly considered to run WeWork, the beleaguered office rental company, but denied ever having talks with the company.
"I was never having discussions to run WeWork, and because we had this announcement pending, I couldn’t say it but it did create a weird awkward period of time," Legere said on a call on Monday.
