On November 11-13, 2019, Rwanda announced plans to construct Kigali Innovation City at the Africa Investment Forum in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The project, valued at approximately $2 billion, will be located in Kigali's Special Economic Zone and will serve as a hub for world-class universities, technology companies, biotech firms, commercial and retail real estate.
Expected to create 50,000 jobs annually, the project aims to build a critical mass of talent, research, and innovative ideas.
As part of the Government of Rwanda's vision 2020 development program and National Strategy for Transformation 2017-2024, the project will also have a Pan-African human and economic development impact.
The construction project will be a private-public partnership between the Rwandan government, Africa50, and other African states.
Notably, Rwanda is known for its rapid economic growth, driven by technological advancement and infrastructure development.
