Kenya's Harambee Stars have suffered a significant injury blow ahead of their Afcon 2021 Qualifiers match against Togo, with head coach Francis Kimanzi confirming that goalkeepers Patrick Matasi and Ayub Timbe will miss the clash.
Matasi picked up an injury during the team's trip to Egypt for the Afcon 2021 Qualifiers, lasting barely five minutes in the game as he stretched his muscle while taking a goal kick.
Timbe, on the other hand, has suffered a myriad of injuries this season and was also withdrawn from the Egypt game with a knock, and it appears he has not recovered in time.
As a result, Ian Otieno and Cliff Nyakeya, who replaced the duo in the Egypt game, are now expected to be handed starts this time around.
Speaking in a pre-match conference, Kimanzi said, 'We have less time to have them back and we are still waiting for a medical report.'
He added, 'If you have an injury less than twenty minutes into the game that would mean it is not a small injury. If we had another game in the next five days then we could have considered them but we have less time between the two games.'
The game against Togo is scheduled to take place at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani Stadium at 7pm EAT.
