On November 16, 2019, a Nanyuki court granted police a 21-day extension to detain Major Peter Mugure and his co-accused Collins Pamba in connection with the murder of Joyce Syombua and her two children.
Central region's Senior Deputy Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Peter Mailanyi, requested the extension citing several complexities in the case, including the need for further analysis of Joyce Syombua's phone and investigation of Major Mugure's residence.
Mr. Mailanyi stated, 'We believe there are other suspects still at large who are involved and police need to trace and arrest them.'
The court also heard that DNA samples have been taken from the bodies but are yet to be analyzed to link the suspects to the murder, and a post-mortem has not yet been carried out.
Major Mugure's lawyer requested access to his client, claiming he has been denied access since his arrest.
Major Mugure was detained at Nanyuki Police Station, while Pamba will be held at Naromoru Police Station.
The matter was set for mentioning on December 9, 2019.
