On November 15, 2019, six bouncers were brutally murdered in Masebula village, Busia County, during the funeral of Johannes Okoth, a local trader.
The victims, William Omondi, Elvis Odoyo, Evans Onyango, Richard Oduor, David Okeyo, and Philip Kwach, were among seven reportedly hired to provide security during the funeral.
Locals turned on them and lynched them on suspicion of murdering Mr. Okoth, after it allegedly became unclear who they were and on whose invite they were securing the coffin.
According to Busia County Commissioner Jacob Narengo, four suspects – one woman and three men – are being held by police and are aiding in investigations that are likely to lead to the arrest of more suspects involved in the murders.
Mr. Narengo urged area residents to provide the police with information regarding the incident and to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious characters seen around the village.
The suspects will later be arraigned in court.
