Published on November 18, 2019, Migori County has finally allocated Sh80 million to complete the stalled Migori County Stadium.

Migori County Governor Okoth Obado announced that the county budget will fund the completion of the stadium, which has been stalled for over three years.

According to Obado, the stadium has been in its worst state for several years, undermining sporting activities in the county.

The stadium was initially allocated Sh40 million in 2014 but stalled in 2016 after the completion of the fencing and leveling of the field.

Earlier this year, the county department of sports planned to spend Sh400 million to construct a multi-purpose stadium at Lichota, but the governor ruled it out.

Obado stated that his administration has decided to complete the construction of the facility, which is currently the only stadium in the county.

Many upcoming teams have been forced to hold their matches at Sony Green Stadium due to the lack of a better stadium in the county.

County Director of Sports Silas Jonyo revealed that the department is planning to have a stadium in each sub-county to improve sporting activities in the county.
