Published on November 18, 2019, Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has spoken out against the push for a referendum, calling on Kenyans to preserve the current Constitution.
According to Kuria, the primary motivation behind the push for a referendum is to serve the interests of a select few, rather than the greater good of the nation. He claims that the process is a waste of time and resources, which could be better utilized for the benefit of all Kenyans.
Speaking during a fundraising event at Kagio Primary School in Kirinyaga County, Kuria emphasized the struggles faced by farmers in the country, stating, “Coffee, tea and milk prices have fallen drastically and farmers are getting peanuts for their deliveries.” He added, “Farmers are disillusioned and some may give up if urgent measures are not taken.”
Kuria also criticized Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru for joining forces with Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga, labeling her decision as a form of political suicide.
MP Kuria further argued that the country's current financial instability renders a referendum unnecessary, as it would only serve to waste Kenyans' time and resources.
