Kenya: Likoni DCI Boss Arrested Over Sh20,000 Bribe

On November 16, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded in Mtongwe, Likoni, as detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested Chief Inspector Charles Onyango, a senior officer at the Likoni Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigation.

According to reports, Mr. Onyango was found receiving a Sh20,000 bribe, sparking an immediate response from the EACC detectives who were hot on the scene.

After being apprehended, Mr. Onyango was booked under OB number 77 of November 16, 2019, at the Central Police Station in Mombasa.

Before being taken to the police station, he was presented at the EACC Mombasa offices on Nkurumah Road where he recorded a statement.

Mr. Onyango spent a few hours at the anti-graft offices before he was transferred to the police station.

He was later released on a Sh50,000 cash bail pending further investigations, with the senior officer set to be arraigned on Monday, according to a police report obtained by the Nation.
