On November 16, 2019, Embu Diocese Bishop Paul Kariuki reiterated the Church's opposition to abortion during a graduation ceremony at Fidenza Nursing School in Kyeni.

"Every medic should respect the sanctity of human life," he emphasized, adding that life begins at conception and should not be taken away.

Bishop Kariuki cautioned the graduands against procuring abortions, saying, "When pregnant women come to you requesting you to get rid of their unborn babies do not agree to do so."

He noted that the Church will not support abortion, even in Church-sponsored hospitals and dispensaries, and that women who secretly give birth and dump babies are "cursed".

The bishop proposed that unwanted babies be brought to the Church, which has children's homes to care for them until they grow into adults.

Embu Health executive Dr. Joan Mwende responded, stating that students interested in nursing must pass the subject and attain a minimum mean grade of C and above, including a minimum of grade C in biology.

Dr. Mwende thanked the Church for its efforts in training medical staff and promised consistent support from Governor Martin Wambora's administration.
