On November 17, 2019, the body of Faith Wangui, a 25-year-old mother of two, was discovered at the Menengai Crater in Nakuru, six days after she was last seen alive.
Wangui had left her work station in Murang'a to take her children to their aunt's place in Nakuru for the December holidays, but made last-minute changes and instead went to meet her estranged lover, Joseph Muchiri, at an entertainment joint in Nakuru Town.
Her family claims that Muchiri, who is in his late 20s, had been abusive for the past six years, prompting Wangui to leave his house late last year.
'Their marriage has not been straight for long, the guy was a threat. For the last six years that they have been together, the marriage was hell. Once when she gave birth and the child was two weeks old, he beat her up badly,' said her brother Joseph Mwangi.
Wangui's body was found with her left hand and breast chopped off, and her face doused in what is suspected to be acid.
Police have commenced investigations, but Muchiri remains at large.
