On November 16, 2019, the bodies of Joyce Syombua, 31, and her children, Shanice Maua, 10, and Prince Michael, 5, were discovered in an open field near the Laikipia Air Base in Nanyuki town.
Major Peter Mugure, the prime suspect in the murder, is expected to be arraigned in court where police will likely seek more time to hold him pending conclusion of investigations.
According to sources, a 21-year-old male casual labourer at the senior officers' mess in the Laikipia Airbase, Collins Pamba, allegedly aided Major Mugure in burying the bodies of the three late in the night.
Collins led the detectives to Thingithu area where he pointed out the exact spot where the bodies were exhumed.
Residents claim insecurity in the area could have given the suspects confidence to bury the three without fear someone would see them.
Joyce Syombua's family is waiting for direction from the DCI on when to travel to Nanyuki for identification of the bodies and post mortem.
Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor is also expected in Nanyuki for the exercise.
