Cleophas Malala Timed Out by Amani Nation Congress ¶
On November 16, 2019, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala announced his readiness to leave the Amani National Congress (ANC) party and seek re-election.
Malala's decision comes after he was accused of violating party rules and instead supporting Imran Okoth, a candidate from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), in the Kibra by-election.
According to Edwin Sifuna, the ODM Secretary-General, the party is ready to offer Malala a direct ticket if he is expelled by ANC.
On November 17, 2019, Sifuna stated, 'Malala helped Kibra, ODM stands with him. ANC is in trouble for losing the Kibra seat after using a lot of money. As the ODM Secretary-General, I say we are ready to receive him if they reject him.'
Malala has denied the allegations, stating that ANC is in trouble due to its loss in the Kibra by-election.
On November 15, 2019, the ANC Disciplinary Committee, led by Chairman Yare Mohammed, announced plans to investigate Malala and possibly expel him from the party.
However, Malala claims that the move is not due to the Kibra by-election but rather a power struggle within the party.
