On November 16, 2019, at around 4 pm, anti-corruption detectives arrested a senior police officer in Mombasa for allegedly soliciting a Sh20,000 bribe from a suspected drug baron in Soko Mjinga.
The officer, who was driving his official car at the time of the arrest, was handcuffed and bundled into an EACC vehicle that had been trailing him.
According to a police report obtained by The Standard, the officer was arrested under Occurrence Book No. 77 of 16/11/19 and briefly held at Central Police Station.
After being interrogated at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) regional offices for several hours, the officer was released on a Sh50,000 cash bail.
County Police Commander Augustine Nthumbi referred journalists to Urban police boss Eliud Monari for comment, but Monari declined to comment, citing ongoing investigations.
The arrest comes just four months after another officer was nabbed over drug trafficking allegations.
