On November 18, 2019, Major Peter Mugure, a key suspect in the murder of his estranged wife Joyce Syombua and their two children, was fired by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The decision came days after the bodies of Joyce Syombua, 31, and their children, Shernice and Prince Michael, were found in a shallow grave on Thingithu estate in Nanyuki town, Laikipia.
According to reports, Mugure led detectives to the site where the bodies were exhumed.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of Mugure's involvement in the gruesome murders, and he remains in custody.
Colleagues at the Laikipia Air Base have described Mugure as suffering from depression, citing peculiar behavior, including standing in the rain for hours, which disturbed his fellow soldiers.
