On November 16, 2019, Togo arrived in Nairobi in a chartered plane, landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the evening, giving them a head start in preparation for their Afcon 2021 qualifier against Harambee Stars.

Just two days later, on November 18, 2019, Harambee Stars, who had drawn 1-1 against Egypt in a three-day rest, faced concerns over their own fatigue ahead of the clash against Togo.

Harambee Stars had battled hard against Egypt, producing a second-half masterclass to earn a draw against the record African champions.

However, a sloppy back pass from Eric Ouma handed Egypt a goal, before Michael Olunga drew the visitors level to earn Kenya a vital point.

Wanyama has now admitted the team was fatigued but promised to put their best foot forward against the west African nation.

“Everyone is tired, it’s just a mental thing we have to switch on and give our best,” the Tottenham midfielder was quoted saying.
