On Sunday, a devastating mass shooting occurred in Fresno, California, leaving four people dead and six others wounded.
The shooting took place at a backyard party on the 5300 block of East Lamona Avenue, just south of the Fresno Yosemite International Airport, around 8 p.m. local time.
According to Michael Reed, a deputy chief of the Fresno Police Department, at least one gunman opened fire into a crowd of about 35 friends and family who were watching a football game in the backyard.
Mr. Reed stated that all 10 victims were Asian men between 25 and 30 years old, but several children were present at the party.
“Thank God that no kids were hurt,” Mr. Reed said.
Three of the men died in the yard, and one died after being taken to a nearby hospital. Six others were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
As of Monday morning, the police had not made any arrests in connection with the shooting, and the motive behind the attack remained unknown.
“This is senseless violence,” Mr. Reed said. “We’re going to do everything we can to find out who the perpetrators are and bring them to justice.”
Detectives were “canvassing the area searching for witnesses and anyone with surveillance cameras,” said Lt. Bill Dooley of the Fresno Police Department.
The shooting occurred in a city surrounded by vast expanses of almond and fruit trees, about 175 miles southeast of Sacramento.
California has seen a rash of mass shootings in recent weeks, including a shooting at a high school in Santa Clarita, a shooting at an Airbnb rental in Orinda, and two shootings at separate Halloween parties.
