5 Easy Snacks to Make with Your Child ¶
With schools out, it's essential to keep your child's hands busy and their taste buds tingling. Making snacks together is an excellent way to spend quality time with your child and teach them essential cooking skills. In this article, we'll explore five easy snacks to make with your child.
Before we dive into the recipes, it's crucial to emphasize the importance of kitchen safety. Never leave your child alone in the kitchen during preparation and cooking. However, if your child is experienced in handling food, you can rush out and back in if necessary.
Yoghurt Popsicles ¶
Yoghurt popsicles are a refreshing and delicious snack perfect for warm days. Your child can choose their favorite flavor by selecting from a variety of yoghurt options or using natural yoghurt as a base. Add some fruit choices like mangoes, strawberries, bananas, or blueberries to create a unique flavor combination.
Blend the yoghurt mixture with a few drops of vanilla extract and some honey for added taste and flavor. Pour the mixture into popsicle moulds or small plastic cups with a spoon as a handle. Place the moulds or cups in the freezer for at least 4 hours, and enjoy!
Homemade Pizzas ¶
Who doesn't love pizza? Making homemade pizzas is an excellent way to keep your child entertained and creative. All you need is a few slices of baguette bread, grated mozzarella cheese, readymade pizza sauce, and some toppings like cooked sausages, sandwich ham, or leftover grilled chicken.
Prepare the ingredients before getting your child involved. Have them spread the pizza sauce onto the sliced bread, sprinkle on the cheese, and add their favorite toppings. Place the mini pizzas on a lined baking tray and pop them into a 165°C oven for 8-10 minutes.
Fruit Smoothies ¶
Fruit smoothies are a nutritious and delicious snack that will keep your child feeling full between meals. You can choose between a dairy-based fruit smoothie or a plain fruit smoothie. Blend together plain or flavored yoghurt with some fruits of choice like bananas, mangoes, or strawberries for a creamy smoothie.
For a regular fruit smoothie, fill your blender with ice cubes, fruits of choice, and a little honey for added sweetness. This is a great smoothie to enjoy on a warm day.
Fresh Fruit Kebabs ¶
Creating fresh fruit kebabs is another fun way to keep your child entertained and encourage them to eat more fruits. Chop up a couple of fruits into large cubes and lay them out ready to be placed through a kebab stick. Cut off the sharp end of each kebab stick to make it safe for your child to use.
Let your child be creative and have fun lining up the sticks with their favorite fruits. This is a great way to teach your child about different fruits and their nutritional benefits.
Mini Mug Cakes ¶
Baking a cake doesn't need to take hours to enjoy a slice. You and your child can bake mini mug cakes in a microwave that will be ready to eat in just five minutes. Mix together self-raising flour, sugar, egg, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla essence in a large mug.
Play around with flavors by adding a little cocoa powder, chocolate chips, sprinkles, or dried fruit. After properly mixing the dry and wet ingredients, place the mug into a microwave for three minutes. Poke the centre of the mug with a toothpick to ensure it's cooked all through. Give your child a spoon and let them enjoy their mini mug cake.
