On November 18, 2019, Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) officials were in a daylong meeting to plan the release of the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results.
Education stakeholders had started to arrive at Knec headquarters along Dennis Pritt Road, Nairobi, as directed to be there by 9am. The meeting was held after invitations were sent on Sunday evening.
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha was expected to brief President Uhuru Kenyatta before the results were released.
Earlier, a total of 1,088,986 candidates had sat for the examinations last month. Marking of the examination was concluded on Friday, with 6,440 examiners marking English composition and Kiswahili Insha papers.
Multiple choice papers were marked through the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) machine, which processes marked data from candidates' answer sheets using specialized scanning.
During the examinations, 17 people were arrested in connection with irregularities in Nyandarua County.
