On November 15, 2019, six men believed to be bouncers from Kisumu were brutally lynched by irate villagers in Butula, Busia County.

Following the tragic incident, the family of Johannes Okoth, a slain Busia businessman, is now seeking long-term police security.

Okoth's elder brother, Joseph Aduol, expressed concerns that the two police officers deployed to guard their home might be withdrawn, leaving them vulnerable to potential attacks.

"We are worried that the officers may be withdrawn and anything can happen thereafter. We request for long term police security," Aduol said.

However, Butula Deputy County Commissioner Johnston Kigeni has assured the family that the government will not withdraw security from the village.

"We're not running away from them. In fact, we want to put a police post in the village to provide adequate security. We're not taking chances and anyone who dares attack the village will be dealt with by the government," Kigeni said.
