After counties rejected the Punguza Mizigo Bill in October, the Ekuru Aukot-led Thirdway Alliance Party is preparing the next phase of the constitutional amendment initiative, dubbed 'Punguza Mzigo Kenya'. The initiative is set to be launched in the first week of December.
According to the party's secretary-general, Fredrick Okango, they have been receiving proposals from the public and reports from all 47 counties on the reasons behind the rejection of the Punguza Mizigo Bill. The party aims to harmonize these proposals to form a general suggestion on the constitutional amendment.
Okango stated that after harmonizing the proposals, the party will formulate a new bill and visit the 47 counties to drum up support and ask Kenyans how they want to get involved. The party will then meet to set the date of the launch, which is expected to be early next month.
Ekuru Aukot, the party's leader, tweeted on November 13, 'We are determined to save our country from the brink of collapse. Kenyans have been sending us proposals and today our NEC is meeting to review. Be ready for Punguza Mizigo Kenya.'
