As I reflect on the rich history of Kenyan football, one aspect that stands out is the unlikely bond between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia fans. Despite their fierce rivalry on the pitch, these fans shared a deep connection off it, often becoming the best of friends and neighbors.

One such fan, Marola, was a die-hard AFC Leopards supporter who embodied the spirit of the club. He was known for carrying a large blue and white flag featuring a leopard holding a football, and his love for the team was unmatched. Marola's antics on the sidelines were a sight to behold, and his enthusiasm was contagious.

Marola's friendship with Gor Mahia fans was a testament to the camaraderie that existed between the two sets of supporters. In fact, away from the madness of football, these rival fans were often the best of friends, sharing drinks and mourning together in times of sorrow.

As I wrote about the Gor Mahia supporters of yore, many readers shared fond memories of the good times they had following the team. Dodd Kenyatta, one of the old fans mentioned in the article, called to take me down memory lane of the good times he had following K'Ogalo.

However, it was the mystery man himself, Apingo Nyawawa, whose name seemed to have tickled many senseless. University don Oyugi CMG Onyango wrote about Apingo's antics, recalling how he used to chauffeur dignitaries around because Gor was playing the following day.

These stories of Marola and Apingo are a reminder of the special bond that existed between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia fans. Despite their rivalry on the pitch, these fans shared a deep connection off it, one that was built on friendship, camaraderie, and a love for the beautiful game.
