Published on November 18, 2019, a bizarre incident unfolded in Mombasa, Kenya, where a man's life took an unexpected turn after he stole timber from a hardware yard.
Joseph Kinyanjui, the suspect, allegedly stole softwood worth over KSh 100,000 from a yard in Mombasa on Friday night. The wood was loaded into a small lorry after the trader closed his yard and headed home.
However, Kinyanjui's actions were short-lived as he began to feel an unusual presence, which he attributed to mysterious voices directing him to return the stolen goods.
"After stealing, I thought that I had made a killing and that I will be rich after selling them. However, I started feeling unusual and I feared what might befall me," Kinyanjui said.
He confessed to being a habitual thief but claimed that the Friday incident sent chills down his spine in an unusual way.
According to an eye-witness, Joseph hired a cart to return the loot, and the witness further averred that suspects who steal from the trader suffer harsh consequences.
"You cannot steal from this area and get away with it, other suspects don't even go to the toilet after stealing," said the eye witness.
On the evening of Saturday, the owner revealed that he had invited a native doctor, Ndumba wa Ndumba, who invoked prayers that saw the thief surrender.
Another eye witness said that from Sunday evening, the offender started returning other things he had stolen but was intercepted by police and held in protective custody and is awaiting to be arraigned.
"From this morning, other suspects have been returning stolen goods. The doctor who came here yesterday is indeed a good and trustworthy doctor," he said.
