On November 15, 2019, six men were attacked and killed at Masebula village in Busia county. The victims were suspected of being involved in the murder of a local businessman. However, their families claim they were in the area to protect a widow, Mercy Auma, whose husband had been killed.

Among the victims was 35-year-old William Omondi, also known as 'Cisco,' who had organized security for Auma. Omondi's family revealed that he was orphaned at the age of 10 and was brought up by his uncle. He had dropped out of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) due to financial constraints.

Evans Onyango, 20, who lived just 200 meters from Omondi's home, was also killed in the attack. Onyango's wife described him as a special child who had left behind a young family. The victims' families are seeking justice and answers on what led to the tragic event.

County Commissioner Jacob Narengo and Police Commander John Nyoike convened a security meeting at the Bumala police station on Friday evening, November 15, 2019. Narengo faulted residents for taking the law into their own hands, stating that they should have arrested the suspects and taken them to the police station.
