On Saturday, November 16, 2019, Alyssa Jamal, a talented lady golfer from the Coast, showcased her exceptional skills at the 2019 Ladies Medal Golf tournament held at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa.
Playing off a handicap of 14, Jamal carded a total of 73 nett, securing the Silver medal in the tournament.
She achieved this impressive feat by recording eight level pars, five bogey shots, and double bogeying the rest of the holes in both nines.
When asked about her victory, Jamal expressed her gratitude, saying, "I have been playing well of late. I am humbled with this victory and I thank my parents and the club for their great support."
Other notable winners of the tournament included Teresia Odoo, who took the runner-up spot with a score of 74 nett, and Saida Samji, who secured third place with a score of 75 nett.
Additionally, handicap 29 Pervis Barnsley won the Bronze Medal with a score of 72 nett, while a field of 100 golfers participated in the one-day 18-hole tournament sponsored by Johnnie Walker.
Separately, at the par 71 Muthaiga Course in Nairobi, handicap 7 Uday Rajani emerged as the winner of the Crown Paints sponsored golf tournament with a score of 40 points.
Handicap 10 Daniel Mbugua took the runner-up spot with a countback score of 38 points, while Susan Kanyora, playing off a handicap of 13, secured the lady winner title with 33 points.
At the par 72 Ruiru Sports Club, handicap 20 J.N. Wanyoike posted 40 points to emerge the overall winner of the Fresha Dairy brand sponsored golf tournament, beating handicap 17 Josphat Kaunda by a point's difference.
