Published on November 18, 2019, South African draught champion Lubabalo Kondlo has been touring Kenya, promoting the sport and pushing for its inclusion in the Olympics.

Reigning world draught champion Kondlo believes the sport has become increasingly popular globally and its inclusion as a competing sport at the Olympic Games is long overdue.

Speaking at the Mombasa Open draught tournament, Kondlo said, "The International Draught Federation has applied for admittance as one of the Olympic sports and we as draught enthusiasts hope to see the sport become one of the events in Olympic Games in future."

During his tour, Kondlo also met with Kenyan draught enthusiasts and officials, including national team captain Charles Musyoka, who urged the counties to support the sport.

Notably, Kondlo recently won the world title by beating Italian draughts Grandmaster Michele Borghetti 5-0 in Mississippi, becoming the first African to claim the title.

He also became the first and only draughts Grandmaster in South Africa and on the African continent after winning the World Qualifier in Las Vegas in 2007.
