On November 17, 2019, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili, alias Babu Owino, recorded a statement at Parliament Police Station, claiming an attempt on his life.
According to Babu, four individuals in a saloon car have been trailing him day and night for several months.
"Over the past couple of months, I have been on the receiving end of hateful abuse and indeed threats against my life for my outspoken brand of politics," Babu stated.
He attributed the alleged threats to his fearless defense of ordinary people, saying, "I am known for speaking out in defense of ordinary people without fear or favor. This seems to be rubbing some people in high places the wrong way. Regardless, I have done my duty to the people fearlessly and will continue to do so until the Lord calls me home."
Babu Owino has called upon Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to expedite investigations into the alleged assassination attempt and bring the suspects to justice.
