Francis Atwoli, the Secretary General of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU), has asked Deputy President William Ruto to seek the blessings of President Daniel Moi.
Atwoli made the call on November 16, 2019, after attending a church service in Moiben Constituency, where he was accompanied by Moiben MP Joshua Kutuny and Cherangany MP-elect Wilson Sossion.
Atwoli said that President Moi is a respected leader and that Ruto needs his blessings for his political success.
He advised Ruto to make efforts to meet with President Moi and seek his blessings, saying that it is necessary for his political success.
Atwoli also advised Ruto to ignore those who are spreading divisive politics, saying that President Moi had warned against such politics.
"Mzee Moi had warned us against such politics, and we should not follow those who are promoting them," Atwoli said.
Atwoli's call comes after Ruto was denied access to meet with President Moi in May 2018, when he visited his home in Rongai, Nakuru.
At the time, Ruto was told that President Moi was not available to meet with him, citing that he was undergoing treatment.
Since then, Ruto's allies have accused Gideon Moi of blocking Ruto from meeting with President Moi due to their political differences.
