On November 17, 2019, Ireland's largest construction company, Designer Group, marked its entry into the Kenyan market with the opening of a new office in Nairobi.

The company's decision to establish a presence in Nairobi comes on the back of Kenya's policy shift towards public-private partnerships (PPPs), which has attracted the attention of international investors.

Designer Group, which has operations in Ireland, the UK, Germany, Africa, and the United States, has secured ongoing projects worth Sh1.46 billion and new ones worth Sh2.8 billion in Kenya and Uganda.

The company, which partners with local construction companies when bidding for engineer, procure and construct (EPC) contract jobs, has secured 80 percent of funding for the projects.

Visiting Irish Business, Enterprise and Innovation minister Heather Humphreys, who led a trade delegation of 40 Dublin executives, pitched for joint venture partnerships, saying they presented a good opportunity for Kenyan and Irish companies to trade.
