On November 17, 2019, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu made a surprising announcement, revealing his departure from the Tanga Tanga Movement and his full support for the Building Bridges Initiative and the Handshake.

Waititu, who was once a vocal critic of Raila Odinga and the Handshake, now claims that the Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke factions are no more. In a video circulating on social media, he stated, 'There is now no Tanga Tanga or Kieleweke. No one can claim he owns Uhuru more than the other. This is now past tense. I am 100 percent fully behind the Building Bridges Initiative and the handshake.'

Waititu's decision comes as he faces corruption charges related to the irregular awarding of a Sh580 million tender in his Kiambu county government. The tender was allegedly awarded to his close family members, including his wife Susan Wangare.
