Pope Francis has appointed Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich as the new Bishop of Eldoret Diocese, a position that fell vacant in 2017 following the death of Rt. Rev. Cornelius Korir.

On October 30, 2017, Rt. Rev. Cornelius Korir succumbed to complications from diabetes and high blood pressure, leaving the Diocese of Eldoret vacant.

Consequently, Pope Francis appointed Rt. Rev. Maurice Crowley, the Bishop of Kitale, as the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese.

The appointment of Bishop Kimengich was officially announced in Rome on November 16, 2019, at noon.

According to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), the letter of appointment was sent to them by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, His Excellency Archbishop Bert van Megen.

Bishop Kimengich, 58, was ordained as a priest of Nakuru Diocese on September 14, 1986, and has since held various positions, including Auxiliary Bishop of Lodwar and Titular Bishop of Tanaramusa, appointed on March 20, 2010, and Bishop of Lodwar, appointed on March 5, 2011.

His replacement in Lodwar is yet to be named.
