As the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) prepares to enter Grade Four in January next year, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced plans to train 68,490 teachers on the new curriculum in December.
According to TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia, the training is part of the commission's efforts to ensure teachers are adequately prepared for the new curriculum.
Ms Macharia noted that a total of 91,620 teachers were trained in April, while 68,490 were trained in August this year.
Meanwhile, the government is also working to distribute Grade Four textbooks to public schools across the country by the end of November.
Deputy Director-Primary Education at the Ministry of Education, Nereah Olick, said the ministry had shared a list of learners per school with publishers to help determine the number of books each school should receive.
Ms Olick warned publishers that there will be no extension of the exercise, and those who fail to meet the deadline risk having their contracts cancelled.
Kenya Publishers Association Chairman Lawrence Njagi has assured Kenyans that the books will be delivered in time, and has asked publishers to adhere to their contractual obligations.
