On a day of triumph, Philip Birech and Naomi Chebet were crowned champions at the Kass International Marathon, held in Eldoret town on November 17, 2019.
Birech, who trains in Kapsabet, took the top spot in the men's category with a time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 07 seconds. He was followed closely by Amos Kipkemboi, who finished in 2:22:32, and Patrick Keter, who came in third with a time of 2:24:26.
"I have been participating in Kass Marathon for the last 10 years, but today God has helped me realize my dream of winning this race. Despite this race having one of the toughest courses, I thank God I have won it," said Birech in an interview.
Naomi Chebet, from Elgeyo-Marakwet County, was the clear winner in the women's category, clocking a time of 2:46:60. She was followed by Nancy Arusei, who finished in 2:47:04, and Sarah Jerop Lagat, who sealed the podium with a time of 2:47:15.
"The race was tough, but I thank God for helping me finish first," said Chebet, who runs under Global Sports Communications.
The introduction of a half marathon for the first time in 12 years added an exciting element to the event, with Gladys Kipkoech emerging as the winner in the women's 21km race with a time of 1:13:46.
