Long, luscious locks are a dream for many women. While Rapunzel's hair may be the stuff of fairy tales, there are steps you can take to achieve longer, healthier hair.

First, understand that hair growth is a natural process, but it can be slowed or even stopped by breakage. To preserve the hair that has grown from your scalp, avoid rough combing, excessive styling, and heat damage. Instead, opt for protective hairstyles like box braids, cornrows, wigs, buns, and twist outs, which minimize manipulation and keep your hands out of your hair.

Another key factor is moisture. Dry hair is prone to breakage, so keep your locks hydrated with a hair lotion, leave-in spray, or even just a few spritzes of plain water sealed with an oil. This will help your hair stay flexible and reduce the risk of snapping.

Finally, take matters into your own hands. When you care for your own hair, you have control over the amount of pulling, combing, and heat being used. Try washing, blow-drying, straightening, and braiding your own hair to reduce damage and save money in the long run.
