On Saturday, Eliud Kipchoge and the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) held a tree planting activity at Karura Forest, in honor of the world athletics champion. The event, which took place during a marathon, saw Kipchoge plant commemorative trees at Amani Gardens, alongside other partners including Isuzu East Africa, KEPSA, Friends of Karura, and Centum Group.
While flagging off the marathon, Chief Conservator of Forests Julius Kamau highlighted the connection between forests and athletic sports in Kenya. He noted that forests provide ideal training grounds for Kenyan athletes, and that plans are underway for Kipchoge to adopt Kaptagat Forest in Uasin Gishu County as one of his ideal high-altitude training locations.
CCF Kamau also called on corporate organizations to support forest conservation as part of their CSR activities, in line with the National target of attaining 10 per cent tree cover by 2022. Participants of the marathon enjoyed a walk trail through Karura Forest's beautiful scenery and breathtaking canopies.
