On November 15, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at a funeral service in Butula, Busia County, Kenya, where six men were lynched by irate mourners.
The victims, who were dressed in black suits and white shirts, attended the funeral service of a slain businessman, John Aduol, but could not explain their connection to the deceased.
According to Western Regional Police Commander Edward Mwamburi, the villagers became suspicious when they spotted the six men and demanded to search one of them, discovering three knives in the process.
"Villagers became suspicious when they spotted six clad in black suits. They noticed one of them had a bag and demanded to search it and upon the search, discovered three knives," said Mwamburi.
The incident occurred at Wamasela Primary School, where the deceased's body had been taken for viewing ahead of the internment.
Busia County Commissioner Jacob Narengo confirmed the incident and assured that officers had launched investigations into the killings.
"I urge Kenyans not to take the law into their own hands. There are agencies mandated to deal with suspected criminals," Narengo said.
