On Saturday, November 16, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kajiado County made a significant discovery in Loitoktok, a town in the county. They arrested a woman, Jane Wahu, who was linked to the illegal transportation of a consignment of ethanol.
According to a statement by DCI, sleuths discovered 54 drums of ethanol, which were concealed by heaps of watermelons and wheat husks inside two lorries. The lorries were parked near a bank in Loitoktok before detectives subjected them to a search.
Over 13,500 litres of suspected ethanol were seized during the operation, and the motor vehicles have been detained as investigations commence to determine where the ethanol was obtained from and the intended destination.
DCI has now launched a probe to net other suspects and also find the source and destination of the chemical. The agency has also commenced investigations to net other suspects involved in the trade and unearth the source and destination of the chemical.
Police have booked the suspect, Jane Wahu, into lawful custody, and the case is ongoing.
