On November 17, 2019, Strathmore University Scorpions secured a 2-1 victory over Sliders in a Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) women's match held at City Park.
Strathmore's Lynn Ayuma and Denise Odongo scored crucial goals in the first half, giving the students a 2-0 lead that they maintained until the end of the match.
Strathmore captain Jane Muragu expressed her team's desire to end the season strongly, despite missing out on the title. 'We want to end the season well so we can build on it and perform better next year. Even though we missed the trophy, we have gained a lot in terms of lessons learnt and we have gained more exposure because most of our players are new to this level of competition,' Muragu said.
Sliders' Charity Miller led a solid backline, but Strathmore's efforts eventually paid off with Ayuma converting a penalty corner in the first quarter and Odongo scoring in the second quarter.
Sliders managed to score a consolation goal in the 50th minute, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match.
