On November 16, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at a funeral service in Butula, Busia County, Kenya, where six men were lynched by irate mourners.
The deceased, John Aduol, a local trader, had been kidnapped from his home in Masebula village and found dead. The six men, dressed in black suits and white shirts, attended the funeral but could not explain their connection to the deceased.
According to Western Regional Police Commander Edward Mwamburi, the villagers became suspicious when they spotted the six men and discovered three knives in one of their bags. The villagers suspected that the six men could have been linked to Aduol's death and descended on them, killing them.
Busia County Commissioner Jacob Narengo confirmed the incident and assured that officers had launched investigations into the killings. He urged Kenyans not to take the law into their own hands, as there are agencies mandated to deal with suspected criminals.
