Impala Saracens' winger Quinto Ongo converted a try by fullback Anthony Odhiambo as the team rallied from behind to secure a 26-24 win over Mwamba in a Kenya Cup rugby league match at Impala Sports Club on November 16, 2019.
League leaders Kabras Sugar maintained their dominance with a 49-15 victory over Nondescripts at Jamhuri Park Showground, while champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) defeated Menengai Oilers 43-13 at Moi Showground in Nakuru.
Homeboyz also upheld their unbeaten run with a 36-17 win over Western Bulls at RFUEA Ground, while Blak Blad overcame Kisumu 31-3 at Kenyatta University.
Impala's win was crucial as they jumped to fourth place in the log with 15 points, while Menengai Oilers dropped to fifth with 11 points.
Impala's coach Mitch Ocholla attributed the team's victory to their new strategies, saying, 'We are trying new things at Impala and the victory is a good relief coming from Kabras Sugar loss last weekend.'
Mwamba's coach Louis Kisia, however, felt that a controversial penalty decision had affected the outcome of the match, stating, 'The last controversial penalty is what corked up things for us.'
