On November 16, 2019, Chief Conservator of Forests Julius Kamau announced plans to have world athletics champion Eliud Kipchoge adopt Kaptagat Forest in Uasin Gishu County as one of his ideal high-altitude training locations.

The spot in Uasin Gishu County is unique due to its altitude, making it an ideal location for Kenyan athletes to train.

"Forests provide ideal training grounds for Kenyan athletes, and towards this, plans are underway for Eliud Kipchoge to adopt Kaptagat Forest in Uasin Gishu County, as one of his ideal high altitude training locations in the country," Julius Kamau said.

Mr. Kamau noted the link between forests and athletics in Kenya, urging corporate organizations to support conservation as part of their CSR activities.

He also emphasized that forest conversation is in line with the national target of attaining 10% tree cover within the next three years.

During a marathon event at Karura Forest, Kipchoge also planted trees at Amani Gardens, joined by other notable figures including James Mworia (Centum Group CEO), Rita Kavashe (Isuzu East Africa MD), and representatives from the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and Friends of Karura.
