On Friday night, a Kenya Medical Training College student made a desperate call to her parents, claiming she had been kidnapped and needed their help to raise ransom money.

Her parents, believing their daughter was in grave danger, quickly sent her brother to deliver the cash, but the student had other plans.

After receiving the money, she switched off her phone, leaving her family in a state of panic.

With the police on the case, the student's number was tracked to Thika Road Mall, where she was found partying with her boyfriend and other KMTC students.

Arrested on the spot, the student had earlier called her parents to dissuade them from reporting the 'kidnapping', claiming she had been dropped off at Galleria in Karen.

However, detectives discovered that the student still had the Ksh 20,000 ransom money in her MPesa account.
