On November 5, 2019, Richard Mwema was shot seven times during an armed robbery at an M-Pesa shop in the Sunton area of Kasarani. The incident was captured on CCTV and has been widely shared on social media.
According to his wife, Mary Mwema, who was celebrating her birthday on the day of the interview, Richard has made significant progress in his recovery. He has even started talking and has been able to wish her a happy birthday.
"We thank God and what I can say is that he has been faithful and we have really seen his healing hand," Mary said, adding that the children have been asking her the whereabouts of their father but she keeps on assuring them that he would go back home.
However, the family is currently facing a challenge in raising the money needed to foot the medical bills. Mary revealed that they have started a digital point to raise funds, and well-wishers can assist by sending their contributions to M-Pesa pay bill number 891300 and on account number 36441.
Richard has undergone two surgeries and doctors have already removed seven of the eight bullets that were lodged in his body. His brother, Donnie Mwema, said that he would undergo surgery to remove the remaining bullet next week.
