Published on November 16, 2019, two officials have been charged with defrauding the Lake Victoria South Water Works Agency of Sh2.1 million between 2013 and 2014.

Engineer Sammy Mwangi, a former chairman of the tender committee of West Karachuonyo water supply project, is alleged to have approved the payment of a low lift pump worth Sh2,150,000 through a payment certificate that was never delivered.

Ali Haji, who was charged alongside Mwangi, is alleged to have stolen the low lift pump and fraudulently presented fake documents to the Water agency's CEO, Petronila Ogut.

According to the allegations, Mwangi also fraudulently allowed the variation of contracted works within the same period without the approval of a tender committee.

Both Mwangi and Ali denied the charges and were released on Sh500,000 bond each. The case will be mentioned on December 7.
