On November 16, 2019, the National government launched water projects worth Sh80.8 million in Homa Bay County to address the perennial water shortage in the area.
The projects, undertaken by the Ministry of Water, Irrigation, and Sanitation through the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency, include the Sindo Water Supply Project in Suba South constituency and the Got Kabok Primary School Water Supply Project in Rangwe constituency.
The Sindo Water Supply Project, costing Sh70.8 million, has a capacity of producing 1,800 cubic meters of clean and safe water per day, serving a population of 12,000 people.
Water Principal Secretary Joseph Irungu said the National government is committed to alleviating water problems in Homa Bay County, adding that the projects will improve the livelihood of the locals.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Irungu emphasized the government's commitment to undertaking more projects to eradicate water problems in the county.
He also challenged his officers to push contractors to complete ongoing projects on time to enhance implementation of other projects.
Local leaders, including Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga and Rangwe MP Lilian Gogo, welcomed the projects, citing their potential to transform the lives of residents.
