Comedian Eric Omondi has shared his struggles in the entertainment industry, including depression and financial difficulties, in a recent interview with Lillian Muli on Citizen TV.
Published on November 16, 2019, Eric Omondi revealed that he had to deal with being broke despite gaining fame, and had to lead a false life to maintain a certain image.
Fortunately, he had a mentor, Churchill, who guided him through the ups and downs of the industry. Eric Omondi shared that Churchill advised him to get a manager and save money after he was locked out of his house multiple times by the landlord.
When Eric Omondi received his first million shillings, he wanted to buy a Mercedes Benz, but Churchill cautioned him against it, saying 'aren't you the same guy who didn't have rent just two months ago? Why are you forgetting so fast?' Churchill's advice was to 'jipange' (be frugal), which Eric Omondi has taken to heart.
Eric Omondi also shared that he crashed at a friend's house in a high-rise estate for six months until he earned his first million shillings. He emphasized the importance of investing one's money, saying 'the moment you have money and do not invest it, your art will die...mimi nimejipanga (I have learned to be frugal). Do not look at me and want to live like me.'
