Published on November 16, 2019, a dispute over Sh151.6 million in legal fees has emerged within Isiolo county government.

Meru town lawyer Dickson Munene has filed a lawsuit against the county government, seeking payment for his services in defending the county in several cases since 2014.

The cases, which range from the era of former governor Doyo Godana to the current administration under Mohammed Kuti, include a Judicial Review application that was dismissed in February 2018.

Some officials within the county government have expressed concerns that the amount demanded by Munene is exaggerated and that he may have colluded with certain employees to fleece the county.

Others, however, believe that the matter should be handled with care and that modalities should be worked out to pay the sum in instalments.

The recruitment of Munene's law firm to offer legal services to the county was also questioned, with some alleging that it was done through single sourcing without competitiveness.
