On November 11, 2019, the lifeless body of Rose Chebii, a 29-year-old Kenyan woman, was discovered floating in the Intracoastal Waterway in St. Augustine, Florida.

According to local authorities, Chebii was last seen walking in the downtown area of St. Augustine at around 5:35am on the same day before her body was discovered by a water vessel at 8:30am.

Initial investigations revealed that Chebii had recently graduated with a certificate in pharmacy from a college in St. Augustine shores, Florida, and her goal was to become a pharmacist, as stated by her family.

‘We need to determine: Did she go swimming?’ said Chuck Mulligan, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office. ‘Was the water cold? Was it a hypothermia issue?’

Investigations are ongoing to determine the manner of death, with detectives still working to establish the circumstances surrounding Chebii’s tragic demise.

Chebii’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to cover the costs of her funeral service, describing her as having a ‘warm, friendly and bubbly personality’.
